FAQ
Students attend traditional on-campus classes 2-3 days per week. They spend the other days learning off-campus and studying under the supervision of parents, completely guided by the structure of the school program.
The university-model is unique in that students can experience student life with the same students they go to school with. The school community itself becomes a family. Families are able to be together, do life together and grow up together. This classical approach to education connects a community of Christ-followers to a traditional school program.
We recognize truth, beauty and excellence in every discipline. The university-model is a partnership between parents and the school, with truths from God’s Word integrated into every subject.
Parents have the unique opportunity to disciple their children - to prepare them for life. Deuteronomy 6:6-9 says as parents, in our comings and goings, we are to impress God’s Word upon our children. When our children are exposed to the world, as we know they will be, we want parents to feel called and equipped to point them back to the gospel.
Parents are trained throughout the year on how to engage with us in the education process. Instruction is aligned between home and school. University-model schools combine traditional Christian education with homeschooling attributes. Wisdom is valued over knowledge as parents teach their children in collaboration with our teachers.
This style of education is a calling. If God is speaking to you and your family and placing a calling on your heart to be more engaged with their education, we encourage you to pray about whether SBS UM is the right partner for educating your child. We value biblical teaching and allowing students to be challenged in areas they are ready to excel in academically.
Community is at the heart of the university-model. Student life and extracurriculars such as arts and athletics play an integral role in the development of students. We aim to offer opportunities for families to engage with each other outside the walls of school but within the confines of a like-minded community.
University-model education is not homeschooling and it is not virtual learning. SBS UM is a partnership between the school and the family. The satellite days are not spent in front of a computer with a teacher lecturing. These days are meant for parents to take the lead instructing their children within the structure of the school’s curriculum. The burden of the curriculum does not fall on the parents - the school provides the structure and equips the parents to work alongside the teachers.
SBSUM campuses serve grades from pre-kindergarten through grade 12.
We encourage you to attend an information session at your preferred campus location to learn more about the admissions process.
